StrongSeal Support Ends

StrongSeal

Effective December 31st, 2010 Tides Marine will no longer Support the StrongSeal® Product Line for Propeller Shaft Seals. Replacement parts (including Lip Seals, Injection Fittings, Welded Bands, Split Bands, Retaining Rings etc...) will no longer be available at that time.

The last StrongSeal® made during 2001 (it's last year of production) are now eight (8) years old. The warranty associated with these parts expired at the end of 2003. These StrongSeal® units are past their useful service life and should now be replaced with the more advanced SureSeal® System.

Tides Marine began supplying quality drive shaft seals to the pleasure craft industry in 1991. By 2000-2001, after a decade of service, the StrongSeal® design and components had been refined and improved as much as possible. In order to continue development of this sealing system, it was time for a completely new design.

Today’s SureSeal® System was the result.

Introduced during the summer of 2001, the SureSeal® has proven to be a stronger, more reliable sealing system. It is now the pleasure boat industry’s leading drive shaft sealing system.

Enhanced features and performance characteristics of the SureSeal® shaft seal system include:

  • Housing
    • Made from a new fiber-reinforced composite material, the housing is stronger, smaller and more durable than it’s predecessor. Dimensionally unaffected by temperature changes, the SureSeal® will not absorb water.

  • Bearing
    • A new PTFE bearing offers extended product life under normal operating conditions. If the water injection system (providing lubrication to the lip seal) should become blocked or fail in any way, the assembly can run dry for hours.

  • Hose
    • Connecting the SureSeal® to the boat has been made easier via a new articulating hose. Matched to each housing size, the hose design positions the unit relative to the stern tube so that the required operating clearance is achieved without measurement (simplifying installation).
    • This new hose greatly reduces the side loads to the SureSeal® when shaft misalignment occurs thereby extending lip seal and bearing life.

  • Hose Clamps
    • The hose clamps have also been improved. They will not tear or mar the hose surface and require less tightening force than their predecessors.
    • They will also adjust to changes in hose diameter caused by variations in temperature and pressure.

  • Lip Seal Replacement
    • The new design incorporates a removable front cap which allows access to the lip seal. This makes it easier to remove and replace the lip seal, especially in cramped quarters..

Call Tides Marine Techincal Support Department for assistance in converting your old StrongSeals® to the newer SureSeals®.
